Matthew, Book One
God's Promise Kept
 |
God described his promised leader as
King, the Messiah, and yet a suffering
servant. Matthew, a despised tax collector
for the Romans, became one of Jesus'
disciples. Other people rejected Jesus
because he didn't fit their preconceptions
of how God would act.
Matthew offers Jesus' geneology, birth,
Old Testament prophecies, Jesus'
teachings including the Sermon on the
Mount, His compassion, His power, and
clashes with the religious leaders as
evidence that Jesus fulfilled God's
promises. You can compare God's
surprises with your expectations.
Chapters 1-16 of the Gospel of Matthew
describe Jesus' birth, fulfillment of Old
Testament prophecy, the sermon an the
mount, teaching on discipleship, and
conflicts with Jewish religious leaders.
