Matthew, Book Two
God's Purpose Fulfilled
 |
Jesus' description of the Kingdom of
God clashed with the people's
expectations that God would destroy
their enemies. Jesus taught and lived as
though God had other priorities.
Humility, resolving conflicts, resisting
greed, forgiveness, loving God, and
endurance, characterize the Kingdom of
God according to Jesus.
Matthew sees the Old Testament
prophecies about the King fulfilled in
Jesus' parables, death and resurrection.
God's purposes for all the people in all
generations are fulfilled not in a political
kingdom but in human hearts.
Chapters 17-28 of the Gospel of
Matthew trace Jesus' transfiguration,
parables of the kingdom, entry into
Jerusalem, conflict, trials, death and
resurrection.
